Traditional glass stoppered reagent bottles are suitable for autoclaving at 121 or 134 °C, or dry heat sterilization. Polyethylene, or PTFE, standard taper stoppers offer an alternative to glass stoppers. Both the wide- and narrow-necked versions of the DURAN® ISO 4796-2 reagent bottles are available in clear or amber borosilicate 3.3 Type 1 glass.
Common bottle sizes include 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1000 ml (1 liter) and 2000 ml (2 liter). Older bottles, especially for medical use and for expensive chemicals, can be found of capacities well under 100 ml. The selection of caps and stoppers that reagent bottles are closed with are as important as the material the bottles are made of, and the decision as to which cap to use is dependent on the material stored in the container, and the amount of heat which the cap can be subject to.
Cleanup of equipment that has been used to transfer air-sensitive reagents must not be taken lightly. Since many of thesereagents react violently with water, fires are a potential hazard. The crown cap and liner of an empty Sure/Seal bottle should becarefully removed and the open bottle (or storage flask) left in the hood to allow the last trace

May 5, 2022 · Pasteur pipettes (or pipets) are the most commonly used tool for transferring small volumes of liquids (< 5 mL) from one container to another. They are considered disposable, although some institutions may clean and reuse them if they have a method for preventing the fragile tips from breaking.
